Spectrum Farms LLC

Spectrum Farms LLC is a specialty cut flower farm located west of Felton, Delaware that offers locally grown specialty cut flowers, small batch artisanal breads, and handcrafted wood products. As the family-owned property once operated as a tree nursery, Chris and Ashley Sylvester decided it was time to go back to their roots and put their 13-acres farmette back to use in plant production by growing a spectrum of flowers and plants. They currently provide the opportunity for consumers to discover flowers at local farmers markets through providing fresh cut flower bundles and arrangements that change throughout the season. It was while offering cut flowers at farmers markets that it was realized there is a need for additional education to consumers about locally grown flowers. Chris launched the project Delaware Dahlias: Increasing Awareness and Availability of Delaware Grown Dahlias as a starting point highlighting this amazing flower and its thousands of cultivars. Chris and Ashley not only find joy in working to establish their own flower farm Spectrum Farms LLC but are also excited to build the community of Delaware flower farmers that grow dahlias. Spectrum Farms offers Delaware grown
dahlia cut flowers, Delaware grown dahlia tubers, and dahlia workshops.

Eastern Sky Flower Farm

Krystyna Corkell, owner of Eastern Sky Flower Farm, is a first-generation farmer who started the farm in February 2022. Krystyna had the desire to work from home while continuing to homeschool her two sons, and was able to what that “at home” job would be in her love to grow things and an unused plot of land adjacent to additional farmland. In learning that 80% of cut flowers used in the United States are imported as well as that the plot of land would be perfect for a cut flower farm, Eastern Sky Flower Farm was established. Currently growing on approximately a 0.10-acre area, there is room to expand on the 3.5 acres. Never imagining that flower farming would be her dream, Krystyna grows specialty cut flowers, including dahlias, in Greenwood, Delaware and offers them to consumers at their roadside stand as well as at Amity Coffee. Eastern Sky Flower Farm doesn’t stop at cut flowers, they also have eight (8) chickens and sell eggs along with the flowers at their stand.

Derby Mill Farm

Derby Mill Farm Botanicals is a no-till, family-run specialty-cut flower farm located in the heart of Kent County, Delaware. Sisters Vicki Cronis-Nohe and Paula Soghomonian are farming in the field where they played as children, after moving back to the Delmarva region several years ago. We started the farm in 2020, and use sustainable and agriculturally regenerative methods, with the intent of improving our soil fertility. Cover crops, compost, biodynamic preparations, and organic material inputs are helping us build tilth, little by little.

You can find our flowers at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market, the Bethany Beach Farmers Market, and during the holidays we create sustainable seasonal items. You also can buy directly from the farm. Fresh-cut flowers are in season from May to the first hard frost. We have dried flowers year round.

In addition to markets, we've found we enjoy the creative challenge of doing floral design for weddings. Working with couples to reflect their own unique love story in flowers has become a growing part of our business.

Backyard Blooms of Delaware LLC

Dahlias are the reason Backyard Blooms exists, a small suburban flower farm nestled in Newark. Owner, Sarah Renaud Williams, grew Dahlias in preparation of her wedding during a global pandemic to save some money and became hooked. She saw the impact they made with her guests and knew she wanted to share that experience with others.

Dahlias are a big part of the cut flowers grown in the backyard as well as a variety of other romantic and cottage style blooms. Sarah is passionate about curating a mix of beautiful blooms that range from soft pallets to bold and moody jewel tones to be available from late May through October. She offers Bouquet CSA, specialty arrangements and DIY weddings. Sarah also enjoys designing using preserved blooms in a variety of ways including epoxy resin, pressed frames, wreaths, jewelry and more at regional fairs and markets.

At Backyard Blooms, Sarah takes care to foster a biodiverse planting incorporating many native species. She only uses organic inputs,  encourages wildlife to help her with pest management and focuses on crops that are happy to grow here in beautiful Delaware.
